Yes, Harvester can search and collect Outlook PST files.
When creating a job, there are options to include loose PST’s (PST files that are not attached or active), Mounted PST’s (PST files that are attached to a Microsoft Outlook account), and Live PST’s (PST files that are attached and open).
When selecting loose and mounted PST’s for collection, there are 3 options for PST processing which include:
– “Single target per source” – Creates a target PST for each source PST encountered
– “Collate sources into a single target PST” – Creates a single target PST of all source PST’s encountered
– “Generate loose email files from source” – Creates a single loose message file based on the format selected
Export types (for “Generate loose email files from source”):
– Unicode Outlook message files (.msg)
– Raw RFC822 files (.eml)
In order to collect live PST’s, Harvester uses a utility called VSS (Volume Shadow Services) to create a Shadow Volume of the source(s) listed for collection. This allows files that are normally locked (not able to be accessed or copied) to be enumerated and copied. Harvester 4.0.3028 and newer will automatically attempt a VSS copy for files in use (Harvester must be run as Administrator).
