In 2006, our CEO, Jon Rowe, sketched a bold idea on what we thought was a whiteboard (it could have been a piece of paper, as it had been a long time since we had used one): defensible data collection should be effortless. Twelve months later, he and CTO James Beasley transformed that idea into Pinpoint Labs and launched SafeCopy 1.0, a tool built on one unwavering promise from our earliest clients: “Give us speed and precision.”
Listening became our growth engine. Pinpoint 1.0’s high-speed deNISTing (2007) stripped away digital noise before a review even began. Harvester Portable (2009) delivered “eDiscovery-on-a-stick,” while Harvester Server (2010) let investigators run targeted network-wide jobs from a single console. SharePoint Collector (2011) reduced week-long site captures to overnight tasks, and Pinpoint Cloud (2019) enabled teams to “pinpoint” the right gigabytes across Box, Drive, and OneDrive. CrossCopy Desktop (2023) unified Windows, macOS, and Linux; CrossCopy Enterprise (2024) folded cloud sources into the same workflow, proving that staying curious keeps us ahead of every data wave.
Through each leap, four core values kept us true:
- unmatched customer service
- privacy-by-design
- unshakeable integrity, and
- courtroom-proven defensibility.
Here, engineers still answer phone calls, resolve nine out of ten questions on the first call, and turn the tenth into the next sprint—because the best software is built by those who listen first and code second.
Today, our tools sift through petabytes of data faster than early SafeCopy builds could process on a single server. Yet, the mission remains unchanged: anticipate tomorrow’s discovery headaches and eliminate them with user-friendly innovation.
Next June, we celebrate twenty years, and the milestones we unveil will honor that founding promise of listening to our customers and providing them with speed and precision in their data collection and digital investigations.
